﴿ وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ هَٰذَا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّنَا ۚ قَالَ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ ﴾

“If thou couldst but see [them] when they shall be made to stand before their Sustainer [and] He will say, "Is not this the truth?" They will answer: "Yea, indeed, by our Sustainer!" [Whereupon] He will say: "Taste, then, the suffering that comes from your having refused to acknowledge the truth!"”

أي: { وَلَوْ تَرَى } الكافرين { إِذْ وُقِفُوا عَلَى رَبِّهِمْ } لرأيت أمرا عظيما، وهَوْلًا جسيما، { قَالَ } لهم موبخا ومقرعا: { أَلَيْسَ هَذَا } الذي ترون من العذاب { بِالْحَقِّ قَالُوا بَلَى وَرَبِّنَا } فأقروا، واعترفوا حيث لا ينفعهم ذلك، { قَالَ فَذُوقُوا الْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ }
