﴿ وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَٰنِهِمْ لَئِن جَآءَهُمْ نَذِيرٌۭ لَّيَكُونُنَّ أَهْدَىٰ مِنْ إِحْدَى ٱلْأُمَمِ ۖ فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ نَذِيرٌۭ مَّا زَادَهُمْ إِلَّا نُفُورًا ﴾

“As it is, they [who are averse to the truth often] swear by God with their most solemn oaths that if a warner should ever come to them, they would follow his guidance better than any of the communities [of old had followed the warner sent to them]: but now that a warner has come unto them, [his call] but increases their aversion,”

আর তারা দৃঢ়তার সাথে আল্লাহর শপথ করে বলত যে, তাদের কাছে কোন সতর্কাকারী আসলে এরা অন্য সকল জাতির চেয়ে সৎপথের অধিকতর অনুসারী হবে; অতঃপর যখন এদের কাছে সতর্ককারী আসল [১], তখন তা শুধু তাদের বিমুখতা ও দূরত্বই বৃদ্ধি করল--- [১] অর্থাৎ মুহাম্মদ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম। [তাবারী]
