Al-Baqara • EN-TAFSIR-AL-TUSTARI
﴿ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱشْتَرَوُا۟ ٱلضَّلَٰلَةَ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ وَٱلْعَذَابَ بِٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ فَمَآ أَصْبَرَهُمْ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ ﴾
“It is they who take error in exchange for guidance, and suffering in exchange for forgiveness: yet how little do they seem to fear the fire!”
�Ah! What boldness [they show] for the Fire!When asked about these words, Sahl replied:That is [boldness] in issuing legal ruling[s] (fatwā) without sufficient knowledge of the Sunna or the divine law (sharʿ), and [boldness] in servitude to the practice of the people of the Fire.
