Al-A'raaf • EN-TAFSIR-AL-TUSTARI
﴿ ۞ وَإِذْ نَتَقْنَا ٱلْجَبَلَ فَوْقَهُمْ كَأَنَّهُۥ ظُلَّةٌۭ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُۥ وَاقِعٌۢ بِهِمْ خُذُوا۟ مَآ ءَاتَيْنَٰكُم بِقُوَّةٍۢ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ مَا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ ﴾
“And [did We not say,] when We caused Mount Sinai to quake above the children of Israel as though it were a [mere] shadow, and they thought that it would fall upon them, "Hold fast with [all your] strength unto what We have vouchsafed you, and bear in mind all that is therein, so that you might remain conscious of God"?”
When we wrenched (nataqnā) the mountain [and held it above them]�That is, �We rent it (fataqnā) and shook [it] violently, just as al-ʿAjjāj said: [rajaz metre]They nurtured our great dreams,And tore apart (fataqnā) our nightmares. His words, Exalted is He:
