Al-Hajj • EN-TAFSIR-IBN-ABBAS
﴿ وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلْعَذَابِ وَلَن يُخْلِفَ ٱللَّهُ وَعْدَهُۥ ۚ وَإِنَّ يَوْمًا عِندَ رَبِّكَ كَأَلْفِ سَنَةٍۢ مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ ﴾
“And [so, O Muhammad,] they challenge thee to hasten the coming upon them of [God’s] chastisement: but God never fails to fulfill His promise - and, behold, in thy Sustainer’s sight a day is like a thousand years of your reckoning.”
(And they will bid thee) O Muhammad (hasten on the Doom) al-Nadr Ibn al-Harth wanted the chastisement to happen before its due time, (and Allah faileth not His promise) by bringing down His chastisement, (but lo! a Day) like the one in which their chastisement happens (with Allah is as a the sand years of what ye reckon) of the days of this worldly life.
