An-Naml • EN-TAFSIR-IBN-ABBAS
﴿ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ لِمَ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ ٱلْحَسَنَةِ ۖ لَوْلَا تَسْتَغْفِرُونَ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ ﴾
“Said [Salih to the erring ones]: Why do you seek to hasten the coming upon you of evil instead of hoping for the good?” Why do you not, rather, ask God to forgive you your sins, so that you might be graced with His mercy?””
(He said) Salih said to the disbelieving party: (O my people! Why will ye hasten on the evil) the torment (rather than the good) rather than well-being and mercy? (Why will ye not ask pardon of Allah) why do you not repent of idolatry and denial and profess Allah's divine Oneness, (that ye may receive mercy) and escape the torment.
